Kansas will have a statewide smoking ban on Friday, March 12.

The bill that will be signed into law this Friday is a step that Kansas legislators hope will save an estimated 380 Kansans' lives per year.

A major supporter of the bill is Rep. Charles Roth, a Salina Republican.

Last week the Gorilla women's basketball team suffered a 75-71 loss to rival Northwest Missouri State in the first round of the MIAA tournament. The Gorillas, who had swept the regular season with Northwest, were knocked out of the tournament in the first round and had to catch the bus back to Pittsburg a little earlier than they had hoped.

On Friday, March 5, the Kansas Board of Regents announced that Anthony Tompkins, the current dean of the College of Education at Pittsburg State University, would replace Reggie Robinson as the president and CEO of the organization. The nine current members unanimously voted him to the position.

If so, singer-songwriter Sarah Slaton (quite the alliteration), a 2009 graduate of Missouri State, is making her way back to Springfield for a show at the Highlife March 5.

The show will also feature other bands fronted by female vocalists and former Missouri State students.

Goodman is running for the Missouri 7th Congressional District seat, currently held by Roy Blunt (R-Springfield).

After introducing himself, Goodman assessed the current situation of the United States and the importance of political involvement.

Early Thursday morning, March 4, 19-year-old Tyler Baker of Lee's Summit, Mo., was taken to the Crawford County jail on a charge of firing a gun on the porch of Nation Hall.

Police say Baker was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested. He was booked on charges of possession of a weapon on state property, unlawful discharge of a weapon, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Hearnes Hall and the area outside University President Bruce Speck's office was the site of another protest urging Southern to update it's non-discrimination policy today.

Around sixty people, including students and several faculty members, gathered at 12:15 this afternoon and demanded the University include sexual orientation in the policy.
