Cinna the Poet releases new CD

Band plays two shows in Joplin

After more than two years on the local music scene Cinna the Poet releases a CD. "Our album did come out with a label," said Forrest Stockton, guitarist. "We didn't just save all of our money and put it out ourselves." The band released its self titled CD through Milktree Records, a label under the umbrella of Orangepeel records out of San Jose, Ca.

Mid-west reggae and punk rock inspired the music making up Cinna the Poet's first self-titled CD, Cinna the Poet, released the last weekend of March. The all-ages launch show was March 30 at The Surge. They performed again the following night at Joplin's Nightlife for the 21 and over show.

Norml celebrates 4/20 with concert

Joplin Norml is having a concert to spread the word about marijuana. The doors will open at 8pm, on April 20 (420) at Joplin's Nightlife. Cinna the Poet will be the headlining act at this year's '420' show. The D Boyz, a local hip-hop group will also play.

MDA ball tops $45,000

Cycle Connection kicked off the riding season and its calendar of MDA events with a fund raising ball. By the end of the Black and Blue Ball the group had raised more than $45,000 for MDA topping its $28,000 from last year. "This was an awesome MDA event, good people, wonderful hosts and great band," said Rob Roozeboom, guest speaker and MDA ambassador.

Trappist ales are some of the most delicious beers in the world, and some of the most difficult to acquire. Believe it or not, Joplin is more than just home to Missouri Southern, a portion of Route 66, and the birthplace of Langston Hughes. Joplin is also the home to the Chrome Shop Mafia and the reality television series Trick My Truck. For Bryan Martin, known to his Mafia brethren as "the bossman," said the opportunity the Mafia has been given came from chance.

Goodman family revives old drive-in

From 1949 to 1985, the Route 66 Drive-In served the four-state region with movies every summer weekend. Mark Goodman, has owned the property since 1986. Only in 1997 did the Goodman family turn the property back into a theatre from a salvage yard. Mark, his wife, Dixie, and three children turned the drive-in into a family project.

With Southern hospitality, antique furnishing, ripe-aged wines and true Irish cuisine, the White Rose Winery has guests making reservations. Owners Jim and Jan O'Haro bought the estate in Oct. 1998, and opened Jan's dream of a Bed and Breakfast on St. Patrick's Day, 1999.
