The Missouri Southern Lions are coming off of a tough road less to Washburn last week, but their Homecoming opponent thinks they stand tall among MIAA teams. "I think that Missouri Southern is one of the sleeping giants in the conference," said Kevin Verdugo, Fort Hays State head football coach.
Student Senate adjourned early Wednesday after a disagreement between Senators over parliamentary procedure ended in the attempted ejection of Dylan Slagle, senior political science major. After a report from the Senate Constitution Committee on the proper uses of Robert's Rules of Order and discussion over the removal of a number of Senate resolutions, Slagle was repeatedly charged with speaking out of order, and was asked to leave by Senate President Hector Amaya, a request he adamantly refused, resulting in the meetings adjournment.
There was a mix of students in Webster auditorium Thursday Oct. 4, to listen to New York comedian Bernadette Pauley. Some students had heard of Pauley, while some students came to see what CAB Comedy Night was all about. "It is always interesting to see the groups who come out," said Carolyn White, senior biology major, the Campus Activities Board president, "Each comedian brings out a different set.
Following the aroma of spicy meat and beans last Monday took Missouri Southern students and faculty to the chili cook-off on the first floor of the Billingsly Student Center. For the second year in a row, Elisa Bryant, alumni relations coordinator and leader of this year's United Way campaign, collaborated with the Alumni Association to coordinate the cook-off.
Recently certified by the College Reading and Learning Association, Missouri Southern's Learning Center honored five of its own for completing the Tutor Training course. Dr. Richard McCallum, vice president of academic affairs, congratulated students for their participation in the program during a noon ceremony on Oct.
Some Missouri Southern students are bringing a little bit of Hollywood to Joplin. Matt Stanley, freshman undeclared major, created an independent film, Justice, with several other Southern students. The film premieres at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 13 at the Route 66 theatre on Main Street in Webb City.
