Southern students produce movie locally

Some Missouri Southern students are bringing a little bit of Hollywood to Joplin.
Matt Stanley, freshman undeclared major, created an independent film, Justice, with several other Southern students. The film premieres at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 13 at the Route 66 theatre on Main Street in Webb City. Following the showing is an after-party, which starts at Champs, and then moves to Stanley's studio apartment where a live DJ will help the cast, crew and friends celebrate into the night.
"This is my way of thanking the actors for making this happen," Stanley said. "Also, this is for announcing that we're here and to have a good time."
Stanley and his crew spent the last year putting this film together. The film, which Stanley calls a "superhero ghetto western," is a modern recreation of the Biblical story of Samson and Delilah. Stanley hopes it will spark a desire in people in the area to put their talents together and make media productions.
"It sucks that there are so many pockets of creativity around here, but every group has a missing ingredient that would allow them to live out their dreams," Stanley said. "Eventually I want to start a community for people that want to get together and do this stuff."
Already, Stanley and his crew are dreaming up several projects that should begin soon. He welcomes everyone to attend the premiere and after-party.
